About Us
Mary Magdalene Ministries (MMM) is a twenty-three year-old, community-based, social justice, and leadership building organization, located in Raleigh North Carolina. The work of MMM began in Wilson County as active research to learn why so many black boys were walking the streets during hours they should have been in school.
The goal was to build a grassroots organization in a community knowingly divided by bias class and race discrimination for the purpose of serving and advocating for children whose educational rights were being denied through arbitrary use of the school discipline policy. MMM develops programs that empower parents to navigate the educational process in effort to better advocate for their students’ rights. We develop summer enrichment programs and after-school programs from a cultural and sub-cultural perspective designed to address the issues ill- affecting their academics.
Our work is rooted and grounded on the cornerstones of equity and social justice. We use restorative practices at the community level in effort to transform minds and communities. We build youth leadership through teaching civic engagement and community service. Our programs empower community people by raising awareness, empowering them with a voice. They learn activism skills and participate in campaigns to change corrupt policies, practices and procedures within the educational, criminal justice and housing systems.
