Widows With Strength
Widows With Strength is the Mary Magdalene Ministries sister organization that supports widows and orphans in Zambia. The organization was founded by sisters Mwila and Mwaba Barcelos of Lusaka, Zambia. The sisters lost their husband leaving them as widows at a very young age. It was then that they understood the plight of widow women in Zambia. Men in Zambia tend to die young and after their deaths women and children are exploited. They suffer such atrocities as forced marriages and property grabbing under traditions known as cultural inheritance laws, usually the in-laws will often take the properties of the husband and leave the women and children with nothing. The women are often forced into marriages with their brother in law to help with the upbringing of the children. These women are often left with nothing, no job skills, shamed and isolated. Under Mary Magdalene Ministries, Widows With Strength is supported monetarily and taught entrepreneurial skills in effort to help them survive.
In the videos below the women are engaged in a strategic plan to identify their strengths and weaknesses. They are carrying out a team building exercise.
