Meet the Community Voices For Equity
Problems of injustice and discrimination have persisted throughout time. There is always a need for those who will advocate for equity and justice and face the consequences of speaking “Truth to Power.”
Not only does our entire society discriminate based on color, but also excludes and oppress based on socio-economic status, educational attainment, gender, culture and disability. In many ways, we are as divided today as we were yesterday.
Education and the criminal justice systems have never been equal for the black and brown people, but have always been major tools of oppression. The blatant denial of funding by legislators in disregard of the court mandate in Leandro vs. North Carolina is a shameful violation of the North Carolina Constitution.
These schools are disproportionately attended by low-income, rural, black, brown, Children with Disabilities and English language learners. All across the world there are those who believe that systematic racism and oppression no longer exists.
The days of shackles and chains no longer exist however the 13th amendment of the Constitution of the United States makes legal a new method of slavery perpetuated through the US Criminal Justice system. Still there are those who maintain there is no need to advocate for racial justice.
“For them who feel it, knows it, No Liberty and Justice for All.”
